Meetings with parents on career orientation in Municipality of Gjakovë

Gjakovë, April 12 - Implementation of the Action Plan for School-Parent Communication Strategy on career counseling and career guidance for ninth grade students has started in the low secondary school “Zekeria Rexha” in Gjakovë.

Representatives of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST) and supporting organizations - Helvetas, Syri i Vizionit and Smart Bits/Lux Development, took part in the first meeting held with parents who have their children in the 9th grade of this school.

In discussion with parents they heard their concerns about career selection and educational opportunities, as well as difficulties in deciding on secondary education.

During the meeting, information was provided on all Gjakovë secondary schools, the role and importance of parents’ engagement and on the Busulla portal, which is in the service of students and parents regarding educational opportunities and professions.

Seven schools were selected for piloting in the first year, one in the regions of Kosovo. The strategy aims to engage parents and empower them so that they can be supportive of their children in taking decisions on education after completion of the ninth grade.
